Rick Martin's Backstory
Before the War
- Spoiler:
- As a boy, Conlon had never really got along with his parents very well. He had never done as good at school as they had wanted him to do. Although having an IQ of 147, he was still unable to get a grade higher than a C+. This was mostly due to his ADHD; witch has made him talk far too much during class. Although, things that interested him, he was able to learn about very fast. When he was a younger boy, around the ages of between 7-10, he had often thrown tantrums of some renown, when things didn’t go his way. When he grew older, he had swiftly grown out of these. As living in a normal community in Canada, you were somewhat out casted if you were a freak like him. Still, all his life he was a sort of different person. Where most children had gone outside and played sports, he had preferred to learn more about computer programming and the basics of Human biology. Even though in grade 8 he had been failing science, he was still one of the smartest kids in his class; more than able to map out certain parts of the Human genome system. As he grew older, he had been able to take part in “Student Elections” witch where elections held by students to practice voting for a prime minister in the future, when you are old enough to vote. He had generally disliked how most of these party’s had believed in “Freedom” and “Equal Opportunity’s”. What he had believed in was that everybody should have an equal amount of land; all people should be given a small amount of food and resources. And all of these land/resources should be owned and managed by a single person or group of powerful intellectuals at the top of a pyramid. At the time, this was known as a dictatorship… Very abnormal for a Canadian child to believe in a dictatorship, yet as he persuaded his friends around him, it started to make sense in a way. As he had grown older, he had noticed that his graded in school where miserably failing, and that he should begin to improve them if he ever wanted to get into politics or become a scientist. Years later, when he was in grade 12 (The final grade of high school in BC Canada), he had improved his grades drastically and he had qualified to go to his college of choice. After years of taking lessons of phycology, economics, accounting, business and advanced biology in university he had then moved onward to join the political career. After many, many years of being a politics, he had finally been running for vice executive of Canadian treasury… In his mind this was a useless job, in this job, you have no political power and you are able to do absolutely nothing. After a while he had noticed that the job was not actually 100% useless. For he had a huge amount of control of all of the economics in Canada! He had then begun to smuggle money out of the Canadian government and nobody had noticed! Unfortunately, after month of doing this, one of his employees had noticed. The man had then reported Conlon and ended up destroying his career all together. After years, nobody would accept him into a job and he had been living in a rundown apartment in the junkie part of Canada. But all of a sudden one day, gun shots randomly cracked out in the distance and large ships had flown overhead. People that did not comply with these strange men in gas masks where shot down and had there body’s dragged away. After a while of watching all of this through his window he had then heard men speaking from just outside his door “Zone.” “Inject!” and then the door had busted down along with the loud pop of a gunshot and then two large men covered in Kevlar had then ran into the room and pointed strange otherworldly guns at him. They had grabbed Conlon and knocked him unconscious, dragging him away to a place he did not remember.
What had then seemed like days later, he had then awoken on a train? He had no idea where the train was going, or where he even was.
C18
- Spoiler:
- After what seemed like hours of falling in and out of consciousness, Conlon had awoken as the train had come to a swift halt once it reached its destination. He had slowly got up from out of the hard red lather bench, and walked out the door of the train. Everything seemed so different. Once he had made it only half way through the train station, a strange man wearing a gas mask and Kevlar holding some sort of odd looking stick in his hand that lit up sparks when he turned it on, had told him to, “Apply.” At the time, Conlon had no clue what this had meant. He had only looked at the man with a strange look and tilted his head. The man had then repeated himself, “Apply!” Conlon could tell by his tone that he did not enjoy having to repeat words. Conlon had then asked “What does that mean exactly?” The man had then sighed and spoke in a frustrated tone “Tell me your name… And citizen identification.” “Citizen Identification?” Conlon had then asked. The strange man had begun to look even more frustrated and then simply said “Look in your pocket…” Conlon had looked down to his pocket, then noticing that his clothes had completely changed while he was asleep. He had gone from a casual white dress shirt and black trench coat with black jeans to an odd blue button up jumpsuit. He looked rather confused upon noticing this, but he then reached into his pocket anyway. He had then found a card with the numbers 22238 on it and one hundred of some odd form of currency. He had then looked up at the officer and said “Conlon Hughes… 22238.” The officer then glared at him for a second and then he reached down to his belt, unclipping some sort of “Data Pad” thing, he had then entered some information into it and then said to Conlon “Alright, you can go.” Conlon had then walked out of the train station, still quite confused on what was going on. After a while of walking around this large city, he had noticed people being beaten and publicly tortured by these strange men. He had then thought that something should be done about this, and these men weren’t right somehow. But at the time, hunger was more important than anything. His stomach growled in hope of obtaining food, he then looked around trying to find something to eat. There were no food stores like Mc. Donald’s or anything like they had before this “War” but instead rations where given out to the most loyal people. Although, there was the “Civil Workers Union” they had food, and lots of it. But he needed tokens, and lots of those… He had no idea how to obtain such tokens, so he thought he should look for a job. There was a nearby news press that was looking for employees and it was run by a man named Markus Paine. Conlon had then applied at this news press and had eventually become one of Markus’s longest lasting workers. Conlon no longer had to scavenge for ways to earn money or food. Markus had paid him around 5000 tokens a day, or sometimes more! After a while of living in the city and working for Markus, he had noticed that Markus’s choice of living like a loyalist was a good idea. You get lots of money, lots of food and lots of everything and lots more respect. Conlon had eventually worked his way up to earn the power of being a level three loyalist. This was a great achievement in his opinion; he had much more rights and got a lot more food and money. After a long while of being a level three loyalist, it seemed that nothing in his life could get better, and that everything was perfect.
C18 (Part Two)
- Spoiler:
- After a long time of living in city 18, Conlon had worked his way up the loyalist ladder and had almost become level four. After a while he got sort of bored, so he thought it would be a great idea to walk across the bridge and go to the Nargodian and buy some food other than citizen supplements. As he was walking there, some crazy person had walked up to him with a gun and threatened to shoot him. Conlon was extremely scared at the time and not sure what the man wanted. The man had told him to drop everything he had, and then he would leave him alone. Conlon had given him everything except for his request device. After a few moments, he slowly reached his hand to his pocket, to call the CCA. The man had noticed this and shot him. Conlon had then stumbled backward and fell off the bridge onto his legs. Luckily a CCA had seen this and attempted to get him to the med bay immediately. Conlon’s legs had unfortunately broken on the fall. This was extremely painful for him, so the CCA had gave him some pain killers to soothe the pain. He had then treated Conlon’s wounds and had left him in the med bay to recover.
A few months later Conlon had fully recovered. And he had been given a prescription to the pain killers that he had been given. About a week later, the pain killer subscription had expired. He had felt very strange after not taking them. It was almost like the world’s worst fever that felt as if nothing could fix it. But then after taking more of the drugs, it felt as if the fever was gone and he instantly felt as if he was normal, and maybe even better than normal. As he lived in city 18, he had constantly been going back to the pharmacy when he could and getting more of this medication. And sometimes when the pharmacy was closed, he found a way to get into the back room and steal some of the pills.
Unexpected Events
- Spoiler:
- At the time, Conlon was sleeping in his apartment, when all of a sudden a meteor crashed right into the plaza of City 18. He had waked up instantly and was very confused. Strange alien creatures that the Combine called “Exogens” had begun to invade the city because of the noise of the meteor. And then the CCA had begun evacuating people from the city because of some sort of disease that this meteor had contained. At the time Conlon was very confused, because he had just woke up. He had been guided to a group of trains that where leaving the city. A lot of people he knew had been put on train one and train three, but he was escorted onto train number two. As the train took off, he noticed quite a few people he knew, but most of them where strangers. There was also multiple CCA guarding the train. After a while, the train had come to a sudden stop right in the middle of the way there. Everybody was told to get out of the train because for some reason it stopped working. He had then got out onto a bridge where you could see a small little town looking thing on a cliff overlooking the waterfront. Everybody was told to get into a line and wait for the Combine to contact the APC’s to come pick people up and escort everybody to their destination. For some reason nobody could get any radio reception, so the CCA then decided to move down to the little town just down the hill next to the bridge. Once we got there, notes where found all over the houses and the occasional weapons stash. It seems as if this must have been some sort of resistance outpost out in the middle of nowhere. After only a little while of being in the houses, we had all been attacked by exogens again. Everybody was panicking and running around trying not to die. There was so much confusion going on. But the CCA had noticed some deactivated “Thumpers” these where devices that emitted vibrations that scare away the exogens. But the thumpers had no power, but the CCA had noticed a generator inside the house, and they needed a few batteries to get it to work. While the CCA where looking for all these batteries, Conlon had noticed an AR2 on the ground. He thought that the CCA could use this and maybe he could get some loyalist points, so he picked it up and held onto it. After a long while of the CCA fending off the exogens, they had eventually found all the batteries and got the thumpers activated. They were then able to call in the APC’s witch had arrived shortly after everybody was escorted across the road to a wide tunnel. After this everybody was taken to another city that was much larger than the last one called, City 45.
City 45
- Spoiler:
- After entering City 45, Conlon was happy, but at the same time confused. He was excited to be able to explore a new home, yet at the same time he was very confused of why he had to leave C18. It had all happened so fast, with the aliens… And the disease. He was very confused, but he knew he had work to do, and places to go.
After a short while of being in City 45, the news press he had worked at for so long had shut down due to terrorist threats. Conlon had no source of income at this point, yet he was still left with the heaping pile of tokens Markus has paid him. He thought that maybe he should find some sort of way to make money. At the time there was a profitable little store called the Nargodian, he had an idea. He could donate a large quantity of tokens to the Nargodian and then in return, if they became successful from this money, Conlon would eventually be paid back more than he paid them. One day he had simply walked into the Nargodian and dropped ten thousand tokens on the counter. The person behind the counter was in shock, but at the same time ecstatic. Conlon had been given a part time job as an advertiser at the Nargodian; he had to put posters all over the city. But at least he was being paid back in return. The Nargodian had become extremely successful after this donation, mostly thanks to Conlon.
After a long while of working at the Nargodian he had met one of the cooks there, her name was Jessica Belo. At first he was intrigued by this woman, she was quite nice and very attractive. Conlon had gotten to know her, and they had eventually become pretty good friends.
After about a week or so after meeting Jessica, she had suggested that they open another news press together. Conlon had thought this was a great idea, because Markus’s shop seemed to be so successful, so if they made a news press it would turn out great as well. After a little while, they had gotten authorization to open a news press, they called it The City Speaker.
City 45 (Part Two)
- Spoiler:
- After a long while of working with Jessica at this news press, Conlon had grows a sort of attraction to the woman and he was sure that she had mutual feelings. Occasionally they would hold hands, hug and kiss and all that. Until one day Conlon and Jessica actually had sex in Conlon’s apartment. At the time Conlon had no idea what he was doing, he knew he was breaking the Combine laws but he felt like he had to do it. After a while after this, Conlon had actually stopped using drugs and everything, because he wasn’t really stressed out anymore and it was easier to quit. But then one day, Jessica had actually vanished from City 45. Conlon had no clue where she went or why she left, she had never even said goodbye. He had been looking for her for weeks after she left, until one day he just had to assume she had died or gotten transferred to a different city. The news press was a failure without her though; she was one of the best writers. So after a while, Conlon had closed down the news press because it began to fail miserably, and then he had purchased the pharmacy, knowing that he already had enough knowledge to work at a place like that. After a while, one of the workers from the news press, Patrick Free had come to the pharmacy looking for a job. Conlon had hired the man and then after a long while Patrick had become one of Conlon’s very good friends and the manager of his pharmacy. Although… Now that Jessica was gone, and Conlon had access to an unlimited supply of medicine, he had regenerated his drug problem and is experimenting on creating new drugs. One of his newest inventions would be LHS, it is a mixture of multiple relaxant medications and anti-depressants along with a small amount of other random stuff you would find under your sink to clean your house with. The medicine has the ability to make you extremely focused for a short time, very similar to cocaine, but then it causes extreme hallucinations almost like LSD. Conlon has been working on new strains and forms of the medicine for a while now and he recently created a gas form of the medicine that can be extremely powerful in even the smallest dose. While normal LHS is simply an off white fluffy powder that is to be mixed in with a drink, that gas form is a clear odorless gas that can be willingly or unwillingly given to somebody.

Re: Rick Martin's Backstory
I am putting the writing of this on hold for a while because I got bored. But I have added another song that I think is perfect considering Conlon has done almost all of that shit in the song IC.
